Saijiki (literary calendar) (歳時記)

Saijiki are books on the matters related with annual events by the national and local, or various organizations, and scenery and customs.

They collect kigo (season words) and kidai (seasonal topics) for haiku (Japanese seventeen-syllable poem). Kiyose (a practical catalog of season-specific words used in composing haiku). Seasonal scenery and customs, animals and plants, daily life such as housing, food, and clothing, and annual events are written season by season. Saiji means different times in a year, or occasions in all seasons.
